My Sister Gargamel
Yesterday, my youngest sister–the "christener of Snow Cat," to whom I referred in my last post as "Gina,"–exchanged blog links with me. Clearly, we were both in happy writing mode as the snowflakes fluttered down upon the DC metro area yesterday afternoon. In between Super-Bowl-party planning emails, we each took a little time to read one another’s blogs and offer appreciative spit-takes. In my family, a spit-take might be considered the (admittedly less formal) ceremonial equivalent of the Japanese bow. Ah, most honored sistah…thwpffffttttt.
Gina has chosen her own pseudonym: Gargamel (a dual tribute to both 80’s style parenting by TV AND her contempt for the little people as she tries to concoct gold in her hovel). Gargamel is married to Guy Smiley–another aptly chosen moniker that doubles as a tribute to the 20-something author’s glowing, always-educational surrogate parent. Yesterday’s blog post documents how that marriage came to be. Guy Smiley is truly a keeper, and this article is a must-read. Just be forewarned: if you don’t want to do the Crestview ceremonial spit-take, push that diet Coke out of arm’s reach. And enjoy the story of the courtship of Lizzie’s sister.
