I remember this view, looking up and back at the ghosts of congregants from the early 1900s, and my own ghosts from the last years of that century. Convergence and a little synchronicity.

Where have you gone, Bishop Robinson?

Submitted by Jane on Monday, 19 January 2009No Comment

And here’s to you, Bishop Robinson,
Jesus loves you more than you will know.
God bless you, please Bishop Robinson.
You were dissed before we got to pray,
Hey, hey, hey

We’d like to know a little bit about why we couldn’t hear
They thought that you would appease us.
Look around you all you see are deep deep sighs,
But Pastor Rick is feeling right at home.

And here’s to you, Bishop Robinson,
You prayed more eloquently than we will ever know.
God bless you, please, Bishop Robinson.
Heaven holds a place even for those who are gay,
Hey, hey, hey

We had to read your prayer online after the big show.
HBO didn’t broadcast.
It’s a little secret just the Obama’s big affair.
Most of all you’ve got to hide it from the kids.

Koo-koo-ka-choo, Bishop Robinson,
Some said your prayer your prayer raised eyebrows you know.
God bless us all, Bishop Robinson.
Heaven holds a place for ALL who pray,
Hey, hey, hey

Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon.
Couldn’t get down to D.C., now…
Speakers there didn’t work so well
Did HBO even get to choose?
Every way you look at this we all lose.

Where have you gone, Candidate Obama,
Our nation turns it’s hopeful eyes to you.
What’s that you say, Bishop Robinson.
Just when we thought we’d be a part of his big day,
Hey hey hey.

with Jane’s and Lizzie’s apologies to Simon and Garfunkel
